My Own Experience with Therapy
I know what it's like to feel stuck, utterly lost, to have your world come crashing down, and to doubt just about everything in your life.
When I went to counseling for the first time after experiencing trauma, I felt dismissed and misunderstood, which made me feel even worse. But then I found a therapist who listened and supported me, and that made all the difference. That's what ultimately led me to make a career change from teaching to becoming a counselor. I want to help others the way my counselor helped me!
How Working with Bethany Can Help You
My therapeutic framework is centered around psychodynamic and experiential modalities, and I favor a holistic approach to achieve healing and wellness. My Christian faith is integral to every part of my life and I believe in scriptural truths as presented in God's Word, the Bible. Most of my clients prefer counseling from a Christian perspective that incorporates grace, mercy, forgiveness, and ultimately, God's perfect love and plans for their lives.
As a therapist in Fernandina Beach, I have helped many men and women find healing and gain a sense of hope and peace. It's an amazing thing to witness! I've also helped teens and college students reduce their anxiety and increase their capacity and confidence.

As a Mom to five, ranging from elementary school-aged to college student, I understand the worry, overwhelm, and joys of raising children. It's hard! I am also an adoptive parent and understand the unique challenges associated with adoption. Having a safe space to talk about the challenges of parenthood can be very helpful and freeing.
Professional Experience
I hold two Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Hampshire, one in English, the other in Spanish, and graduated cum laude. I also lived in Spain as an exchange student for one year. I graduated from Concordia University Irvine with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling with Highest Honors. I enjoy research, consulting with other clinicians, and I strive for professional excellence in the field of mental health counseling. I have been a member of the American Counseling Association since 2019.
I've always enjoyed connecting with teens and adolescents, especially as a teacher; and my work as a ministry events coordinator and speaker allowed me to interact with adults in creative and meaningful ways. As a therapist, I have extensive experience treating at-risk populations, anxious high school and college students, adults with abuse and trauma histories, and particularly women who are struggling with infertility and pregnancy loss or affair/betrayal trauma.

Personal Interests
My family and I recently relocated from beautiful New Hampshire, where I was born and spent most of my life. Fernandina Beach is certainly capturing my heart with its friendly citizens, amazing weather, and gorgeous beaches. I enjoy traveling, writing, music, photography, and spending time outside.
What to Expect: Setting Up a Consultation Call
Taking the first step can be scary, but it shouldn't be! When you contact me via email, phone or text, or fill out one of the Contact Forms on this site, you can expect a response from me within 24-48 hours.
I am here to answer any questions you may have and to help you feel comfortable. If you decide that we are a good fit, then we can schedule an appointment for either in-person in my office downtown or virtually.

What to Expect: The First Appointment
At our first meeting, we will go over some basic practice policies, procedures, and talk about what has prompted you to seek counseling. I make every effort to give you a safe and supportive space to talk freely and openly, and I can assure you that you will be treated with respect, dignity, and compassion.

Parents Seeking Counseling for Their Teen (14+)
You will be present with your child for a portion of the first session so that we can discuss expectations, limitations, and any other concerns you may have. It is very important that all of us are on the same page from Day One so you can best support your child and the therapeutic process. I do like to check in with parents at least once per month, and this can be a quick phone call.
Please contact me to talk more about this if you have concerns about your child and whether he or she would benefit from therapy, and I'd be glad to speak with you further.
Got a Question?
I'd love to discuss it with you.
